Hey all!
I would like propose the discontinuation of the TRC. *GASP* Hang with me here! In a league with 12 proven competitive owners, I do not feel that trade reviews are particularly necessary. I will outline a few reasons to back up my stance on this!
1. Trade reviews make the trade process slow and cumbersome. While in-season trades tend to get relatively rapid attention, off-season trades result in extended waits for approval. The week-long or more wait is such a drag, especially with teams excited about the deals they make! Talk about a buzzkill!!
2. This level of hand-holding and regulation on deals should only be reserved for new or casual leagues. For example, 9 y/o nephew Timmy make may some pretty silly deals in a family league. Average Joe in a random Yahoo quickjoin league may throw up his hands and give-up, and in the process unload a bunch of players to a buddy of his. I get why the TRC was initiated. In the league's infancy, very few managers knew each other, and it acted as a safety net. This is no longer the case. In my year in this league, I have come to find that we are 12 BADASS fantasy managers all gunning hard for the crown! We have all done our research and know where we want our teams to be.
3. Why should the judgement of 5 members decide for 12? We have such a neat league with 12 awesome members who have proven over several months/years to each have a solid passion and knowledge for baseball.
4. Most important, I think for the morale of this league, we have to trust each other! We all know the game of BASEBALL. We each make decisions that we feel are best for our respective teams. Nobody knows a team like their manager. Sometimes I feel like this is overlooked. Vetoes have been thrown around a too liberally in my opinion. Vetoes originating strictly from one's opinion can create feelings of unease and bitterness in some instances. Some teams may include players in deals just to satisfy what they think the TRC wants to see. This can become toxic over time if we are not careful.
Note: I mean this as no offense to the TRC! You guys have done a mostly awesome job of trade reviews, and you accomplished exactly what you were tasked to do. I realize that real life obligations can get in the way of paying daily attention to trades. My intention here is to bring up a better, more efficient way to go about this process!
My proposed fix: Maintain the trade reviews section. The format is neat, and allows for clear indication of trades and ESPN/Sheets updates. After a trade is accepted by both parties, a 24-hour period takes place in which the entire league is given time to view the trade. No commentary is necessary, but if serious collusion or a league-breaking deal is made, all members are encouraged to speak up and it can go to vote. This would essentially be the new trade review. If the trade goes 24-hours unopposed, then ESPN and the Sheets can be updated.
Let me know what you guys think!
