At 7-2 the ruling is made that teams may no longer defer money in a contract.
Now it needs to be decided, can the teams who already have deferred money keep the money deferred, be given the choice of taking on the money previously deferred, or forced to take on the money previously deferred.

In my opinion, it would be harsh to make teams like Padres take on all that deferred money now. He built his roster and traded for Scherzer assuming the money would be deferred. I'm just 1 vote, but I'd vote to allow deferred contracts on the books currently to stay how they are.

I’m okay with the decision being made by the owners who currently have defferd money, but honestly I don’t know why he wouldn’t want to pay the money now (on Scherzer) unless he wants to trade him. Young cheap team with plenty of salary, why struggle later on down the road with how his team is built. Just my opinion though.

I take that back, I just realized he has two franchise players to pay for. Either way I think it should be the owners decision, and what ever that owner decides is how the contract stays.

I would rather pay the money up front. And if trading a guy like Scherzer, offer to kick in cap money.
