UPDATED POWER RANKINGS ENTERING WEEK 12!
Edit:: This is like.. power rankings meets future thoughts? Idk
Tier 1
1. St. Louis Cardinals
Despite coming off an L in week 11, we're talking about the team leading over half the cats in season totals, imo, there's no debate at this point regarding #1.
2. Minnesota Twins
Firing on all cylinders and coming off 3 big weeks, albeit against 2 of the lower tier teams, Minnesota has begun to widen the gap between #2 and the rest. They benefit from very few injuries, to this point, and look to improve around the all star break with pitchers returning.
3. Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa hasn't had a great year. Alot of ups and downs despite very little injuries. With their record not being on par with the teams above, its weird to say but I think we can consider Tampa as a very strong underdog.
4. New York Yankees
The Yanks are tough to place as they hold 2 Ws over Minnesota, but they're coming off a tough loss to Mil and have some Key injuries that could hamper a run at playoffs. They appear to be a Legit top 4 and when Betts comes back and MAYBE the much anticipated resurgence of Kris Bryant happens, we could see a rise to the top.
Tier 2
5. Milwaukee Brewers
This is where the 2nd tier begins. Milwaukee has seen good times and bad, and currently has what seems like half his pitching staff is on IL, yet they find themselves deep in a playoff race. Big win last week against STL, ending the season long win streak and another big matchup this week against Minnesota... another big test and a chance to prove they belong.
6.Los Angeles Dodgers
I've been down on the dodgers all year but they continue to hang around. Currently in the thick of the playoff race as well, the Dodgers offense is stellar but lacks in pitching. Maybe a returning Sale can help and we all know we've seen The Dodgers looking for pitching help via trade. Maybe that's what itll take to push the Dodgers forward.
7. Boston Red Sox
Currently sitting in 5th in the standings and in a playoff spot, I'm still on the other side of Boston. I dont think this is a playoff team and while he would sneak in today if it was playoff time, the schedule is against them. They still have to face off one more time in the final 3 weeks against Minnesota and New York and I just dont foresee things going well for Boston. With that said, Boston was able to let Bauer go freeing up so much money making them very capable of making the moves that put them closer to the playoff picture later on.
8. Chicago Cubs
Let's be real, we all had Chicago as a top tier team entering the season. It's be a disappointment to say the least but injuries have really rained on Chicago's season to this point. With no Tatis, Buehler, McCullers, even Ty France, this team isn't going to put up the numbers we expect. There's still time and anything is possible, but Chicago is far from a safe bet at this point.
Tier 3
9. Seattle Mariners
I don't think Seattle is far off from being a tier 2 team. But as it stands now, they're probably too far out to make playoffs this season.
10. Miami Marlins
Miami has shown flashes of greatness this year, but doesn't have a playoff team, yet 👀. I think we'll see Miami continue to make trades up til the trade deadline as new ownership continues to out their own stamp on this thing.
11. Arizona Diamondbacks
I'll preach to the choir, PITCHING. Arizona had and continues to lack pitching. Once they address the pitching need, we could see a real jump for this team.
12. Detroit Tigers
Detroit has alot of work to do. It appears relying on prospects to become stars is going to take longer Than expected. Detroit has plenty of holes that need to be addressed and until they are, they may be in the gutter for the foreseeable future.
