2023 (After Minors Draft)
1.) Hunter Brown SP, HOU
2.) Jake Eder SP, MIA
3.) Heston Kjerstad OF, BAL (Thru Trade w/ CIN)
4.) Yainer Diaz C/1B, HOU
5.) Logan Allen SP, CLE
6.) Darius Vines SP, ATL
7.) Ethan Salas C, SD
8.) Colt Keith 3B, DET
Draft Highlights & Notes:
Hunter Brown could arguably be the best pitcher available in this years Minors Draft and was the first one taken off the board. His short stint in Houston really blew me away. Think there’s a good chance he can help my team quicker than most pitchers in this draft. Jake Eder is a young talent that may get lost in a sea of young arms that Miami has coming up, but his skill set looks good and hopefully in a year or two he can either start standing out in Miami or be traded to a l location where he can move up. Heston Kjerstad, has been questionable with his health, but his numbers from the Fall League erased many of my concerns about being rusty. I’ve followed him closely ever since his college career (WPS!!!🐗🐗🐗) and think his swing has a long arm approach that can reach down and grab any ball. By the 3rd round my targeted prospects had been sniped, and this was a no brainer trade. Yainer Diaz and Logan Allen were good player reviews that I hope can grow into starters for me. Darius Vines is another player I’ve followed for a while through his minor league career, and I’m surprised he’s not being viewed as a higher profile prospect. He’s a solid pitcher that’s put up decent numbers and I can see him flourishing in Triple A to maybe get a shot at The Show late this year or next year. Aside from Heston, I think Ethan Salas could be the steal of this draft. The number 1 international prospect, he is definitely a work in progress at his young age. If the talent can develop like many analysts project, he could be the next Bryce Harper. With starting a new team from nothing he could be a huge part of my future depending how he turns out. Finally Colt Keith is an interesting prospect that I kept putting off each round. I worry that the Tigers are treating him the same though with a handful of talented 3B players in their system. Overall I think I obtained a few players that can help sooner than later, and the second half of the draft really got some nice pieces that in 2-4 years may be big pieces.
