Cincinnati Receives: 2023 Minors 2nd Round (KC)
Kansas City Receives: Prospect - Heston Kjerstad (BAL-OF)
After some unfortunate health concerns when he was drafted, Heston has finally been able to take the field to show off his 1st Round talent. At the time of the Minors draft I saw no options with as much upside as Heston so it was a no brainer trade.

Kansas City Royals gets: Prospect: Jake Burger (CWS-3B)
Miami Marlins gets: $1.0 Million (2023)
For the price tag, I think Jake Burger may be a steal. He came into the majors with a Bang due to other players’ injuries. While he may not be an every day starter to begin the season, he’s looking to have a good start to a young career. He was a highly desired prospect just a year ago at a shallow position. I like his skills much more than the current 3B prospects that are available.

Minnesota Receives: 2023 Free Agent 1st Round (KC) 2023 Free Agent 3rd Expansion Round (KC)
Kansas City Receives: 2023 Free Agent 1st Round (CHC) William Contreras (MIL-C) $0.6 Million
Similar to my last trade for Jake Burger, I see William being a huge part of my team for the years to come. An Allstar caliber bat, he took advantage of every opportunity he got with the Braves. He can work on his defense, but he should be able to get plenty of playing time on his new team….plus he’s cheap 😬

Los Angeles Dodgers gets: Kenley Jansen (BOS-RP): $4.30 million Josh Rojas (ARI-2B/3B): $2.58 million 2023: $11.88 million Cash
Kansas City Royals gets: Prospect: Pedro Leon (HOU-OF) Prospect: Connor Prielipp (MIN-SP) Prospect: Carson Whisenhunt (SF-SP) 2024 Rookie 2nd Round (LAD) 2024 Minors 2nd Round (LAD) 2025 Rookie 3rd Round (LAD)
This trade was a little bitter sweet. While I’ve been a fan of Rojas’ since he was moved up from the minors, I knew that I had too many high average/utility player types. Jansen, though up there in years, is playing lights out so far, but I’ve always planned on moving closers in order to better my future. The cash took a larger hit than I’d expected, but for the quality of prospect arms from Prielipp and Whisenhunt, and a top OF with the Astros like Leon, I felt it a very fair trade off. Gaining 3 additional picks in the upcoming years was the icing on the cake that made me feel very comfortable with this trade. Early on I’ve realized that lacking volume in my farm system hinders many trade offers that I’ve wanted to make. This helps me better my chances going forward while also giving me more exciting prospects to cultivate in future years to come.

6/14/23
Cincinnati Reds Receive: Prospect: Hunter Brown (HOU-SP) Prospect: Jake Eder (MIA-SP)
Kansas City Royals Receive: Vaughn Grissom (ATL-2B/SS): $0.60 2023 Rookie 1st Round (CIN) Prospect: Masyn Winn (STL-SS) Prospect: Jacob Miller (MIA-SP)
It took a lot for me to decide and make an offer that would trade away Hunter Brown. I'd viewed him as the future of my young pitching staff, and a big part of my future plans for success. With that said though, his WHIP, walks, and ERA were not quite as dominant as they had been last year. He was still a rising young arm, but I knew that he was also my best bargaining chip to better myself all around. Eder was also a young arm that I was excited about and viewed highly, but the injury bug had his number already in his young career.
The main reason for this trade was Paul Skenes. I had wanted to make a move for the first overall pick in this year's Rookie Draft, but with Detroit being an ownerless team I was able to make a play for that pick. At the time I felt that the second pick would be sufficient to draft Skenes, but this was before the final few games of the College World Series when his value skyrocketed. Unfortunately my plan backfired, but with the 2nd and 4th overall picks in the Rookie Draft I was able to lock down 2 of the top 5 tool prospects. While I would have slightly preferred Skenes, Dylan Crews was a close #1b so I was still able to get a great value for my pick in this trade.
The other pieces that I received in this trade I believe will pan out great for me in the near future. I still have faith that Vaughn Grissom will get his chance to spotlight his offensive talents, whether with the Braves or another organization. Masyn Winn has been focusing more on power this year and the results have been very promising. Hopefully, once he gets acclimated to the Bigs I'm hoping that his speed and contract can show though too like it has in the past few years. Jacob Miller is a long shot at this time, but his raw ability and the stats from his first exposure to the minors looks like he could be the next top arm coming out of Miami who has been on a tear lately with great pitchers.
Overall, this review was overdue and took a few weeks to hash out with Cin, but I believe that it will lead to improvements all around for my team compared to just one solid arm with Brown. While my initial plan did not work out so that I would get Skenes in the draft, my offensive power was greatly improved for the next few years.

7/20/23
Kansas City Royals Recieves: Maikel Garcia (KC-SS/3B) $0.6 Million
Cincinnati Reds Receive: Prospect: Connor Prielipp (MIN-P)
This trade was not near as painstaking as the last one with Cin, and I feel like at this point Cin and I are just mixing and matching our players. I realized that I was really in need of more SB's and a solid SS that would play every day. Garcia has been showing great wheels and above average hitting that helps keep my BA up each week. I hoping the Acuna bloodline will continue to generate stars with Maikel too.
Connor Prielipp has had all the talent and skills I could ask for in a young pitcher, but with two major arm related injuries already I'm just not sure I would ever be able to reap the fruits of his labor. I felt the need to make a move while his name still carried some leverage. I wouldn't say that I struck gold, but I liked that Garcia was at least in the majors and performing well enough to get some playing time for me.

Kansas City Royals Receives: Roansy Contreras (PIT-SP): $0.6 Million Conner Phillips (CIN-SP): $0.60 Million Prospect: Gordon Graceffo (STL-P)
Cincinnati Reds Receive: Chris Bassitt (TOR-SP): $21.00 Million 2024: $10.00 Million Cash 2025: $10.00 Million Cash
I felt like I needed to move an aging Bassitt that was over priced for his return at this stage of team construction. I hated that I had to move so much cash over two years, but it is the most desirable asset I have so early in the game. Hoping that Roansy can get back on track and still has a strong arm that could bounce back after a lack luster season. Phillips is similar with a strong fastball and both cost little to nothing. Graceffo may be the steal of this trade with his good fastball, but also he has some great looking secondary pitch movement.

Kansas City Receives: Ryan Pressly (HOU-RP): $14.00 Million Edward Cabrera (MIA-SP): $0.60 Million 2025 Rookie 2nd Round (TB) 2026 Rookie 3rd Round (TB) 2026 Rookie 4th Round (TB)
Tampa Bay Receives: Ke'Bryan Hayes (PIT-3B): $7.00 Million Roansy Contreras (PIT-SP): $0.60 Million Prospect: Hunter Owen (KC-P) 2024: $20 Million Cash 2025: $10 Million Cash
Once again I was forced to move cash to incentivize traders. Hayes is a mystery to me who shows flashes of being a great player but just hovers around average. I like him, but there's always someone else I like more. Roansy could get back to being his old self, but taking up a roster spot instead of a prospect roster spot diminishes his value a little to me. Love all the picks that I get in return and Cabrera has shown much more promise than Roansy has in the majors. Pressly will complete my trifecta of closers with Diaz and Sewald to hopefully make me a lock each week in Saves.

Kansas City Royals Receive: Xander Bogaerts (SD-SS)- $25 Mil
St. Louis Cardinals Receive: Prospect: Masyn Winn (STL-SS)
This was a bit of an unexpected trade. I had not really planned on moving Winn, but I like that Bogaerts can give me immediate contribution when Winn is still a question mark after his month being called up last year. Bogaerts is a little pricy, but dropping Correa will free up $16 mill and overall I'm getting roughly the same, if not better, production from someone that will cost me about $10 million less per year.

Kansas City Royals Receive: Mason Miller (OAK-P) $0.60 Million Thairo Estrada (SF-2B/SS): $4.80 Million
Texas Rangers Receive: Prospect: Darius Vines (ATL-P) Prospect: Dillon Head (SD-OF) 2024 Rookie 3rd Round (KC) 2025 Minors 4th Round (KC)
I really do hate to ever give up minors picks, but Miller was a target that I had planned on making a push for this offseason. That fastball will make your jaw drop even if he gets stuck in the bull pen as a closer. Estrada was a little extra icing on the cake, but he gives me a middle infielder that can start or be a 3rd guy to flex in when teams/players have off days. Vines will very much be missed and I hope that he succeeds in Atlanta this year.

Kansas City Royals Receive: Austin Hays (BAL-OF) 1.30 Million
Cincinnati Reds Receive: Paul Sewald (ARI-RP) $5.10 Million
With Diaz and Pressly I felt that I could move off Sewald as my 3rd closer and still compete with Saves this year. I like the cost of Hayes and he gives me a solid 2nd OF behind Logan Thomas. I also get to trim a little cap space that will help me mid season with surprise performers.

Kansas City Receives: Prospect: Brayan Rocchio (CLE-2B/SS)
Cincinnati Receives: Ryan Pressly (HOU-RP): $14.00 Million 2024 $10.00 Million Cash
The longer I sat looking at my Sheets, the more I stared at the $14 million that Pressly takes up. Team construction wise it makes sense to either have Mason Miller turn into a source of Saves with Diaz, or move to a Holds oriented team more so than Saves. Rocchio is more than likely going to be moving up to the Majors to start the season too and adds more middle infielder depth behind Bogaerds, Grissom, and Estrada. Of course I had to move some cash as well, but freeing up money from Sewald and exchanging Correa's contract for Bogaerds gives me a little wiggle room that I think still makes me competitive during the season.

Tampa Bay Rays Receive: 2024 Free Agent 2nd Round (KC) 2024: $5.00 Million Cash
More pick, less problems. I had waaaay too many prospects that I wanted to target in this years Minors draft so I tried to get a few more picks for those late round flyers that I love so much. They cost nothing compared to my FA pick and the player I had planned on targeting will probably not fall to me in the second round.

Toronto Blue Jays Receive: Vaughn Grissom (BOS-2B/SS): $0.60 Million
I never intended to take on so much capital right before the start of the FA draft and FAB, but even with how much I love Grissom and expect him to blow up, I couldn't let all that talent pass me up. Marte and Santander will both be solid upgrades at their positions, and I'm expecting Littell to have a breakout season with Tampa Bay like Eflin did last year.

Kansas City Royals Receive: 2024: $16.00 Million Cash

Tampa Bay Rays Receive: 2024: $3.00 Million Cash 2025: $7.00 Million Cash
While I may have lost a first round pick with my last trade, I was able to turn some of that money into multiple picks farther into the future. Even If I'm playing more of a long term game with this trade, these picks could also be turned into future trade pieces that may be more useful to acquire more present pieces.

Kansas City Royals gets: Garrett Cole (NYY-SP): $36.00 Million 2024: $32.00 Million Cash
St. Louis Cardinals gets: 2025 Rookies 1st Roud (KC) 2026 Minors 1st Round (KC) 2026 Free Agent 1st Round (KC) 2026 Rookies 1st Round (KC) Bryce Elder (ATL-SP): $0.60 Million
Sometimes you never know what kind of trades will make themselves available. I was surprised by this one, but getting one of the top two pitchers in all of baseball is a huge get for me. I had to give up a small fortune in draft capital and a good young arm, but Cole could be a huge part of my team in the next year or two. I've been hungry for a top pitcher to really serve as the foundation of my rotation and he's been proven year in and year out. The cost may make things interesting, but I'm sure things can work out in the end. If anything I may shop him once he's healthy and pitching a month from now and might be able to refill my draft picks back up.

Kansas City Royals Receive: Ty France (SEA-1B): $6.78 Million
Chicago Cubs Receive: Prospect: Brayan Rocchio (CLE-SS/2B)
While I always hate having to give up a young talent that is finally getting playing time, I really needed help at 1B. Schanuel is still, in my eyes, my 1B of the future, but he has been having a little bit of a hitting drought to start the season. I believe France is an underrated hitter that has a very high floor, and for the money is a great option for me.

Kansas City Royals get: Prospect: Edwin Arroyo (CIN-SS) Prospect: Thomas Harrington (PIT-P)
Philadelphia Phillies get: Anthony Santander (BAL-OF) 2024: $12.00 Million Cash
The week or two leading up to the Trade deadline was fairly quiet with just a few feelers being thrown around to see who might be open to trades. Santander was definitely one of the biggest bright spots of the first half of the season for me. The only drawback for him was the looming free agency next year or the potential for him to be signed to a large contract that made me feel like he could be too expensive for the expected production. While Edwin Arroyo has been out for a majority of this year, I feel like the talent is there for him to bounce back and be a top prospect again. Harrington was simply icing on the cake. The more videos of him I watched, the more I saw him becoming one of the top prospect arms next year.

Kansas City gets: 2025 Minor 1st Round (PHI) 2025 Rookie 1st Round (TB) 2025 Rookie 1st Round (MIN) 2026 Minor 1st Round (PHI) 2026 Minor 1st Round (TB) Steven Kwan (CLE-OF): $0.60 Million Prospect: Jun-Seok Shim (PIT-P)
Philadelphia Phillies get: Gerrit Cole (NYY-SP): $36.00 Million 2025: $37.00 Million Cash
After weeks of back and forth talks, the deal finally got done. Part of me wanted to move Cole for a deal like this, and another part of me saw the potential starting rotation that I could have next year to get me over the hump of being an expansion team. I had originally traded for Cole simply to move him at the deadline to a contending team and I ultimately decided to stick to that plan. I felt that it would benefit me more to move him than the year or two of dominance I could get for him. The offer to add Kwan was what really propelled me past my trade doubts and similarly to Harrington in our last deal, Shim was just a little extra to help me feel like Cole needed to move and help Philly with a playoff run.

Kanas City Gets: 2027 Minors 1st Round (TB) 2027 Minors 3rd Round (TB) 2027 Rookie 2nd Round (TB)
Tampa Bay Gets: Ben Lively (CLE-SP) $.6 mil Tobias Myers (MIL-SP) $.6 mil
After all my dealings with Philly, I was able to turn my attention to getting a last-minute deal done with Brad. I had not planned on moving Myers and was only looking to trade Lively away simply because of his age. He had an excellent season, and the biggest thing was that he was cheap. Unfortunately, Myers became a packaged deal and for the amount of future picks I was able to get in return I had to let him go. Overall it was bittersweet, but from all my trade deadline moves I felt that I really set myself up for the next few years with a plethora of top picks and avoiding overpriced aging players.
