Effective immediately, we are going to move the Franchise Tag date to March 1st, 12 am CST (Midnight) and the FA draft to March 1st (8 am CST). This will be retroactive to the beginning of this off-season (2023) and effective towards any team that has used a Franchise Tag. Meaning, anyone who has used a Franchise Tag will be allowed to reverse the Franchise Tag prior to midnight on the final day of March 1st, WHETHER THEY SIGNED OR NOT. As well, the FA draft will move up a few days but this will be the format moving forward. Arbitration is over at the end of February making March 1st a safe date for the FA draft yearly.
Clarification of the upcoming schedule of events.
March 1st (Midnight CST)- Deadline for any Franchise Tag finalization. At this time, all Franchise Tags will be finalized and the NEW contract will be binding.
March 1st (Midnight CST)- The OFFICIAL start of the new Season.
March 1st (8 am CST)- FA draft Begins
Clarification on the Franchise Tag moving forward-
Teams will have till March 1st (12 am cst, Midnight) to Franchise Tag a Player. -If a Player is Franchised, that is final. --Said Player will be kept on terms of full salary, but the first season will cost 1.5x. ---If a manager decides to Franchise Tag a player, and drop him before the deadline, the manager will pay based on the newly signed deal. -If you Franchise Tag a player and he has not signed by the March 1st deadline, you will assume the full contract he signs, when he signs it. --If you drop said player before he signs a contract, you will still assume the drop price once he signs UNLESS he goes the duration of the current season without signing.
Sidenote for the FA draft- Players that are not signed to ML Affiliated baseball teams at the beginning of the draft WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE to be drafted.
