This is the Special Edition of the Dynasty Baseball Power Ranks.
No offense to anyone or their team, this is just for entertainment, and to bring about discussion.
Sorry for the delay.
***Week 6***
1. Detroit Tigers
Record: 4-1 Streak: W3
Your 2 time, reigning, defending, Dynasty champion, the Detroit Tigers have been the unstoppable force we have all known him to be. Their juggernaut Offense and equally powerful Pitching have pulled them to a 4-1 record, share of the league lead, and 150+ point differential over the next highest scoring team. Oh, did i mention the Tigers have a +458.8 point differential? Thats a recipe for a repeat.
2. Arizona DBacks
Record: 4-1 Streak: W3
This team is right where we all expected them to be. A few moves here and there, coupled with some FA blunders nearly cost them the week Vs. the Cubs, but some late sunday luck held it together to improve the Dbacks to a 4-1 record, and a share of the leagues best. The key to the dbacks year could be the hard throwing righty sitting on the DL with a torn lat.. Noah Syndergaard. The sooner he comes back, the better. But at this point, the dbacks dont appear to need him, as they look to continue mowing down the competition.
3. Kansas City
Record: 4-1 Streak: W4
With a big week 5, the Royals moved into 2nd place in scoring, still 150+ points behind the Tigers. The Royals seem to have made all the right moves in the offseason, as they also hold the only victory over the Defending Champion Tigers. If KC can avoid injuries and his offense keeps it going, paired with his surprise Pitching core, watch out for them to be a front runner for playoffs.
4. St. Louis Cardinals
Record: 4-1 Streak: W2
The Cardinals are looking as tough as ever. A few minor injuries to young stud pitchers looked like it may have an impact, but now that impact looks miniscule, as his Offense has taken over and seems to be shifting into high gear. Look out for the Cardinals to keep things rolling as we enter 6 weeks of Interleague play.
5. Minnesota Twins
Record: 3-2 Streak: L2
The Twins without a playoff appearance in the 2 years of this leagues existence, hoped this would be their year. Plagued with injuries, those hopes seem to be dwindling away. A major move recently to land Strasburg may help the team, but the trade could end up being remembered more for what was given up. Some say the Twins are at a lucky 3-2 with their point differential being roughly -50. As they hold on to the 3rd spot in the American League, one can only wonder how high they could go if their pitchers get healthy, pr even how LOW they can drop if injuries dont come to a hault.
6. Chicago Cubs
Record: 3-2 Streak: L1
***SURPRISE SLEEPER***
The cubs receive the award for Surprise Sleeper at the 5 week mark. While some of us can say we arent surprised, its still somewhat a shock to see what the Cubs have done. 3-2, about 10 points shy of being 4-1 and those 10 points were in a loss to the powerful DBacks. If you are still asleep on the Cubs, i suggest you wake up. The lineup is young. The pitching is young. He has years of control and alot of free money for the next 3-4 years. He has developed star studded, youth filled roster, with a plethora of picks in the upcoming rookie draft, and a good farm system. This team has serious potential to be a playoff team this year, and if he falls short, im afraid to see what we are all in store for in years to come
7. Los Angeles Dodgers
Record: 2-3 Streak: L2
The Dodgers aren't quite living up to what we all thought. With a 2-3 record, -4 point differential, and only 1359 points scored, the Dodgers are on the outside looking in.. But the beauty, its only been 5 weeks. They have plenty of time to turn things around, but it better start soon as the Dbacks and Cards seem to be running away. It could be getting close to the point where the Dodgers become a seller.
8. Toronto Blue Jays
Record: 2-3 Streak: L1
The Blue Jays record doesnt reflect ownership. The ownership has done everything they could to turn this thing around. They were in a rough spot when taking over, and as it seems to be getting better, tough loses like the 1.5 point loss to the Royals could be the fate of this team. Can they get things going and mke a run at the AL playoffs? Or are they doomed to be the 1st out in the AL?
9. New York Yankees
Record: 1-4 Streak: W1
The Yankees fired their GM 4 weeks into the season, and with new ownership, they had a surprising win against the Minnesota Twins in week 5. Arguably the biggest win in the Franchises history. With 1 win, they were your biggest jumper, moving from dead last (12) all the way to 9. The enthusiasm of new ownership has everyone excited about this teams potential. They made imemdiate moves to get pitchers off FA and added the bats that seem suitable for that lineup. At 1-4, most of us are wondering if week 5 was a one hit wonder, or if this team has what it takes to be the surprise of the season. The ownership, the players, and the fans dont seem to be willing to accept defeat.
10. Pittsburgh Pirates
Record: 1-4 Streak: L4
Most are shocked. Some are left questioning. Few are excited. Whats happened to the Pirates? Still only 5 weeks into the season, we have witnessed a perennial playoff threat fall through the cracks and wind up near the bottom of the Ranks. How far will they fall? How long will this drought last. Only 1 thing is certain right now with the Pirates: its not too late to make a surge to the top of the division. The pirates have seen their pitching plagues with injuries. Recently trading the injured MadBum for Kyle Hendricks could bring some quick minor improvement. The massive deal to land Kulber, only to see him put on the DL the same say hurts. But if we can see some of these guys come back from injury sooner than later, look for the Pirates to make a midseason jump back to AT LEAST middle tier of the Ranks.
11. Colorado Rockies
Record: 1-4 Streak: W1
The Rockies are thought to be in Sell mode. This could be speculation, as they did just come away with their first victory of the season and it was a surprising one. Winning by 100+ pts, they leave us wondering what this team is about. A big, early season move sending Fransisco Lindor to Minnesota sounds questionable, until you hear the part about them bringing back Manny Machado. Was this the move that vaults them up the ranks into playoff contention? Most believe Manny has that type of Superstar power. But Itll take more than that to get them up the ranks.
12. Boston Red Sox
Record: 1-4 Streak: L3
The Red Sox have already announced they are a Seller. We have watched them get hit with injury, after injury, after injury. They come in at 12 in the ranks, and it wouldnt be a surprise to anyone if they stay there. While the season is long and grueling, sometimes things just dont go your way. It may take some time, but the fans are fully behind the Boston ownership to have a hefty rebuild, one can only wonder how lengthy that rebuild could be.
Hope everyone enjoyed!!
